Chapter 1: The Adventure Begins

Max Summers stepped into his empty house from the damp, rainy outdoors. He prodded the soggy black boots off each foot with the alternate foot, letting them lay where ever they fell. He threw his soggy sweatshirt into his room as he passed by, and turned into the bathroom to dry and re-style his soaked hair. It was mainly dark brown hair, but with an apparent blonde streak in the center. After vigorously drying with a towel, he spiked it up with perhaps a little more gel than was necessary.

He then walked to his room, where he changed the damp cargo pants for a baggy pair of jeans, and put a just-too-large red vest on over his untucked black t-shirt. He turned and left his less than neat room for the kitchen.

He rummaged through the fridge for his usual after-school snack of Jello pudding (the chocolate kind, with the butterscotch ripple in the center) but found only vanilla. Considering it for a second, he finally took it, and grabbing a spoon from the dish rack, sat down in front of the family computer.

Within minutes he was visiting all his usual websites, and chatting with his best friend RJ, whom was currently staying with his mother and step-dad, whom lived roughly twenty miles from Max. Little did Max know just how drastically his life was about to change.

The screen was overtaken by the image of an old, balding man with a single tuft of white hair done up in a top-knot. The video-image was quite staticy, and blinked in risk of fading at any moment. The man's face was almost filled with terror, but it was hard to tell, as the man's eyes never seemed to open.

Max, quite surprised by the whole thing, couldn't quite understand what the man was saying though all the static and blinking. The only words he could make out were "danger", "courage", and something that sounded a bit like "digit-man". Max clicked away at various options, attempting to clarify the image, but to no avail.

After about a minute, the image disappeared all together. Max was about to tell his friend of the perplexing passings when the entire screen began to radiate a strange white light. Max sat dazed, the calming light rolling over him, washing all thought out of his mind. After a few seconds which seemed to be hours, Max snapped out of the trance, the computer screen black. Max suddenly realized his hand was outstretched towards the screen, and in his hand he held a strange device.

"That's funny..." Max said to himself, "I don't remember putting my hand out...where did this thing come from?" He turned it over in his hand, analyzing it. It was made of an orange plastic-like material, and rectangular in shape. It bore an LCD screen in the center, and had several buttons similar to that of an old Nintendo controller. And on the top, just above the screen, was what looked like the image of a red sun, with a bulls-eye like center.

It was then that Max realized the odd amount of weight in his lap. He looked down to behold a small, blue creature with long, long crooked ears, stubby arms and legs, a short tail, and white starting at the base of its stomach and ending at its nose. Max nearly jumped when it greeted him with a little "Hi!"

Max leaped to his feet, and the creature hopped onto the floor to keep from falling to it. Max stammered, "W-w-w-what are you?!"

The little creature smiled, "I'm DemiVeemon, silly. I'm your digimon, and I've been waiting a really long time to meet you."

Max tilted his head, fear forgotten, "Digimon? What's a digimon?" DemiVeemon promptly answered in the cute little voice of his, "A digimon, of course, is a digital monster. From the Digital World!"

Max shook his head, "Digital World? Man, the preservatives in these pudding things are dangerous, they're making me see things. Okay, mister Deli-meat-man, just what do you mean you've been waiting for me?"

DemiVeemon let out a sigh that in any other circumstances would have made anyone want to pick him up and hug him to death, "It's DemiVeemon, Max, and I mean just what I said. I have been waiting all my life, which has been a whole week and a half, to meet you!"

Max laughed, "Well, a week and a half? Break out the champagne, the kid's a regular old-timer. Wait here while I get you a shaving razor, sir." He thought for a moment, "Hey, look at me, I'm having a conversation with a pudding-trip. I guess I should stick with carrots from now on, what do you think um...DemiVeemon?"

          DemiVeemon shrugged, "What's a carrot?"

Max laughed again, "And a Harvard education to boot. Geeze, should I be asking for your autograph?" Max looked at the hurt look on DemiVeemon's face, "Okay okay, I'm sorry. I can be really sarcastic some times. Okay then, little guy, just why have you been waiting for me?"

But there was no time for DemiVeemon to answer, because just then, the room filled with a loud sound of a door being smashed through (quite a distinct sound, which anyone who may have heard it will tell you.)

Max ran into the living room, followed by DemiVeemon. And there stood quite possibly the most terrifying thing Max had ever seen in his life. The horrible demon-like thing stood at least 7 feet high, and was entirely black except for random leather braces that he sported on his arms and legs. His lanky arms ran down the entire length of his body, almost touching the floor, and at their ends were what seemed more like claws than hands. His shoulder and knee both bore what seemed like actual skulls, and two long, black horns protruded from the sides of its head.

"Oh no!" DemiVeemon yelled, "That's Devimon! He's an evil digimon of incredible power! His claws slash with the power of pure hatred, and his wings are made of darkness itself."

And sure enough those horrible black wings, unseen by Max before, spread to reach nearly the entire length of the room. Max stood, frozen with fear, as the small little DemiVeemon leaped forward, "Bubble Blow!" From the tiny warrior's mouth spewed a barrage of tiny pink bubbles, which popped against Devimon's chest and having absolutely no effect.

Devimon's eyes, glowing blood-red, turned their gaze to DemiVeemon. In seconds Devimon had snatched the poor little digimon into his powerful claw. The sudden realization hit Max like a ton of bricks, "What the heck is going on here?! Let him go, you devil, drop him right now!"

But Devimon only laughed, filling the room with a deep chuckle that made Max want to rip his ears off and tear them to pieces. Max's face filled with anger, and he ran at the demonic creature, throwing all his weight into its gut.

Devimon let out an "Oof!" and grabbed its stomach with its hands, dropping DemiVeemon to the ground. When Devimon recovered, his face loomed with spite towards Max. He snatched Max up and dug his claws into Max's sides, causing several trickles of blood, unseen through the black shirt. Max let out a soundless cry, finding no air in his lungs. He stared at that wretched face, and then down at DemiVeemon, struggling to stand up. He knew he couldn't give up now, and he mustered all his courage together. He barely noticed the glowing device, which he clutched in his hand. A flash of light...

*DemiVeemon, digivolve to...Veemon!"

Veemon, a bigger, more mature looking version of DemiVeemon, sporting a yellow V on his head, ran head-first at Devimon, yelling "V-Headbutt!" He launched off the ground, propelled by air, and smashed into Devimon's rib cage, producing several cracking sounds. Devimon's eyes shot wide open, and Max fell to the ground with a grunt.

Max smiled at Veemon, "You sure grow up fast, kiddo..." he barley managed a chuckle, "You get that scary-looking guy for me, okay?" Veemon filled with rage at the site of his new-found friend, whom he had been waiting for all his life, struggling to breathe on the blood-stained carpet. He turned towards Devimon, who wore a face of evil glee at Max's pain.

Veemon snapped. He ran at Devimon, and punched him over and over again, in the legs, in the stomach, in the sides. But Devimon only stood laughing. Then, his voice boomed, "Touch of Evil!" and he swept his claw through the air, slicing into Veemon's blue flesh, just short of bleeding. But the foulness of the claw itself caused Veemon unimaginable pain.

At this point Max was back on his feet. He once again ran at the unexpecting Devimon, and tackled him, sending them both out the door and rolling across the muddy lawn. Devimon slapped a claw over Max's mouth, and Max bit at it as hard as he could, gagging as his mouth filled with a vile black fluid he spat out immediately. Max stammered away from the beast.

Veemon ran out the door, clutching his side with one hand. He stood next to Max, and they both watched as Devimon stood and once again spread his wings. "Alright, then." Max announced to Devimon, "If it's a fight your looking for, then it's a fight you'll get." Max looked at the device in his hand, half surprised to see it there. Digivice he thought to himself, I don't know why, but that's what it is. Digivice. And as if coinciding with Max's thoughts, the digivice began to glow once more. A flash of light...

*Veemon, digivolve to...Veedramon!*

And before Max, a large blue and white beast, which resembled both a dragon and a dinosaur, stepped out from the emanating light. A smile crossed Max's face, as the V on the beast's chest identified him as his new friend.

"I am Veedramon!" the digimon roared, "I am a mythical dragon digimon with both strength and power. My V-Nova Blast will rip your evil body to shreds! I don't like to see anyone, digimon or human, being pushed around by demonic psychopaths like you!"

Devimon once again burst into that twisted laughter of his, "Fool! Do you have any idea how much power it would take for you to defeat me?! You don't stand a chance! Prepare to die! Black Wing!" And with that, Devimon's wings lashed out at Veedramon like razor-sharp swords. Veedramon grasped them with his claws, and squeezed them until they crumpled in his grasp, ignoring the sharp pain of the edges digging into his palms. Devimon contracted them to his back in shock.

"And now, tyrant, to finish you off!" Veedramon yelled, as he pulled his head up high. A bright blue light glowed from the sides of his mouth, and shortly after he fired a beam headed by a V-shape straight towards Devimon, yelling "V-Nova Blast!"

The beam shredded into Devimon on contact, and suddenly exploded in a burst of light that Max had to shield his eyes from. When it finally cleared, nothing was left of Devimon but a hole in the ground where he had been standing.

Veedramon turned into light once more, which shrunk down until it took form once again as an exhausted DemiVeemon. Max scooped the brave little digimon into his arms and hugged him tightly, "Way to go, little buddy. I knew you could do it."
